Friday Links

Hello there. It's been a hectic week for me, which means I've been a bad blogger. The good news is that Husband read the first seventeen pages of my revised novel, which is now in first person with a narrator ten years younger than she was a month ago (WHAT?! I know, it's CRAZY up in here!) and he liked it!!!!!

Although, on second thought, Husband tends to like everything I write. I think it's because if he says it sucks mud puddles I might lose my will to eat and then no one will come up with what to make for dinner. (Note: I don't have to make the dinner, but I do have to delegate what we will have. Also, Husband refuses to flavor anything. Like, he won't even salt it. So. Weird.)

In short, here are a couple links I wanted to share with you:

1. New Albany Blog: Check out this blog supposedly by a fifteen year old who is living on a commune. I dare you to read more than three entries and still think it's about an actual teenage girl. Dudes, this is TOTALLY a pretend blog for a forthcoming YA series. Right? Right? Someone back me up on this one.

Also, I can't decide if I like it, because it's creative or if I am annoyed by it because it seems so pleased with itself. Thoughts?

2. Unicorn Vengeance If you ever enjoy reading my Tales From the Used Book Store posts, you MUST check out this amazingly bad Harlequin novel. You better believe I'm going to check and see if we've got any books by this gifted author next week at the store. Oh yes.

Time for some tea and some writing and lots of sleeping.

Belgian Fairies and Fox Fairies

In other news, I have a couple lovely links to share with you:

1. Small Beer Press posted a really cool article on their non-blog today about Fernand Dumont’s Treatise on Fairies and I suggest you check it out here.

2. Terri Windling has decided to have a sale on her current prints, available on Etsy here!!!!

I love Terri's art, writing, and editorial work. She's just...how do I describe her? Having just tested out several adjectives and deleting them all, I will borrow from my friends Juliet and Faye who believe she must be a faerie queen. I think that sums her up very well.

I couldn't help myself from ordering both fox fairy prints. This made me realize I've got a bit of a collection going of fey fox images. Maybe someday I'll post a pic of my growing collection. I just love foxes. They fascinate me.

The prints are only $20 and would make lovely gifts this holiday season!

3. Tor.com has posted Ellen Kushner's short story The Man with the Knives for your reading pleasure. It's set in her Riverside Series (home to novels Swordspoint and The Privilege of the Sword) and features beauitful illustrations by Tom Canty. So break out of the afternoon slump and indulge in a story!

And now, my wrist is hurting and its time for tea and there's an odd short story about hair-swords and a pivotal scene in Heartwood calling for my attention. Farewell...

Cookbooks and Magic

Some randomness to cap off your Tuesday afternoon:

1. I've been wanting to share this link for a while. Design Sponge's blogger Amy M offers ideas for how to style your house like The Labyrinth. This is genius! Now if only I could get David Bowie to come live with me..."Jennifer, you know I'm not really the Goblin King, right?"

Shhh, Jareth. It's better if you don't talk. Just spin those crystal balls again, please?

"But that wasn't me!"

What did I say about not talking?

On second thought, maybe it's better if I just stick with the design ideas and leave David out of this.

2. Curt just sent me this article in Breitbart about a yogi who claims he was blessed by a goddess at a young age and given special powers. Apparently he doesn't eat or drink. The researchers suggested he might be getting energy from the sun. Umm, hello? He told you already: he is being sustained by the essence of the gods!!

If you really look at what's in front of you, you'll realize that there's magic all around.

3. Finally, here are the cookbook shelves at Otter Creek Used Books in all there reorganized, color coordinated glory!(Please note, the shelves were organized by theme first, and I organized them by color within that theme when possible.)

Desperate! Desperate! Desperate!

I just caught this hilarious Romeo and Juliet remake on Perez. It's really funny and a good afternoon pick-me-up. Enjoy!

Stolen Goods

So this post is from author Libba Bray's blog. Libba is coming out with a new book, Going Bovine. She also wrote the Gemma Doyle Trilogy. I haven't read the series yet, although I want to. I think I'm afraid of being intimidated by how awesome it is. Honestly. I have this weird fear and love for Libba Bray. Everyone loves her writing, but she's upfront about her own struggles with the writing process. She's talented but she's also real, like the rest of us.

This post was written while she was revising Going Bovine, which has received fantastic reviews (of course). Yes, it's from 2008 and yes I stole it from Nathan Bransford's blog. But it's so funny and true and so exactly where I am right now that I felt it was worth the link. Enjoy!

This is Why My Mom Deserves a Medal

She prepared Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for two families every year of my childhood(neither side would agree to celebrate with each other though they lived up the street from one another). Not only that but she did it all by herself--with my Dad's help, of course.

Check out this hilarious and heartbreaking Thanksgiving email from my new favorite site, courtesy of my twin sis Baby B.

Fun Links

Carrie Jones has a fun post from a couple days ago, wherein she asks readers to share their favorite last line from a children's novel. Check it out and share your own!

Thanks to Moonrat at Editorial Ass, I just discovered The Intern. I will now commence girl crushing on both of them. Addictive, insightful reading. You must check it out.

Okay back to revising now...

Buffy V. Edward

This vampire mashup was posted on Perez Hilton. It reminded me all over again why I was justified in my high school obsession with Buffy Summers. You really must watch, it's pretty awesome.

That is all.
