The Glamorous Life

I am such a Grumpy Writer tonight. Husband is off rolling d20s with the boys so it's just me: The writer, alone on a Friday night with her Work.

I've been stumbling along in chapter four, trying to get my footing. It's not easy and at some point when I'm writing at night I either hit my stride and can go on and on or I start to fade. Right now I'm fading. I think I better stop for now or I might end up deleting everything tomorrow.

In other news, I've got a freelance gig writing web copy for a trade book distributor. Hurray for getting paid to write! The gym where I teach kickboxing is also going to start paying me, which is oh so nice of them.

Don't forget: I'll be closing my Paper Crane Contest on Monday at 7 PM so be sure to comment before then.

What have you got planned for the weekend? I have declared that Husband and I are doing our taxes. We always wait until April is looming. Other than that, I suppose I'll carve out more writing time since tonight I wasn't very productive. Let's hope tomorrow the words don't fight me every step of the way.

Happy Friday to all, and to all a good night! This sleepy writer is off to shower and bed.

  1. I am grumpy, too, for non-writing reasons. My plans for the weekend almost solely invovle grading. On the upside, I am reading (real, actual novels! yay!) more on the bus, and have a much firmer grasp of my characters' motivations in my steampunkish story.

The bright side of writing--accomplishing anything, even thought. (I don't know if that makes sense. I'm a little tired. :P ) Have a good weekend.

  2. Boo for a weekend of grading. I hear you--taxes and paperwork for me. But I plan to reward myself with a big ramen bowl at a good Asian restaurant in the area. I hope you reward yourself too!!

It's so true that in writing accomplishing ANYTHING is progress. After I posted this last night, I took a shower and realized that the scene I was working on actually did have a point (phew!). I'm glad you're moving forward with the steampunk story--I'm waiting to read it!

  3. I have a two-week break coming up from work and am planning to spend at least half the time writing. When I eventually finish the first draft, you'll be the first I send it to. :)

(I haven't decided what to reward myself with yet, but maybe a nice dinner at this Mexican restaurant nearby. Or a splurge at the Borders that's closing near me. ~sad~)

It's great to hear your scene has a purpose. I kinda like when that happens--a scene (for me) written in the heat of the moment, that I later think will need to be cut, but then I find a reason for it after all. Sometimes the story knows more than I do.

  4. "Sometimes the story knows more than I do." I think that is so true. That's why sometimes it's good to step back and take a break and try to figure out why a part of you wants this scene in there etc.

Yay for writing and Mexican food rewards! I can't wait to read the draft!!!
