Give Us Our Presents Now! We Wants Them.

You guys!! Have you seen the trailer for Anna Karenina??

What do you think? Have you read the novel? I read it after college and in general I loved it (aside from the parts where Tolstoy just lectures about society and agriculture), though I ended up feeling like Anna was more real than the story. Like Tolstoy lost control of her and she came to life but then Tolstoy wouldn't let her go so he forced her to go through with some things I never thought she'd actually do.

But anyway, I digress. I wanted to talk about the casting of the movie and how all of you pictured Anna.

First, let me say that I think Keira Knightly is fabulous. A wonderful, talented actress. And she proved all of us wrong who never thought she could pull off Lizzie Bennet.

And yet...

She doesn't look like Anna to me. At a mere twenty seven, isn't she simply too young? Or maybe it's that there a difference between a woman who is a mother and a woman who is not? I think there might be. Keira doesn't have kids And being a mother is a huge part of who Anna is. Being a woman as opposed to a young woman is part of her sensual appeal.OR maybe she just has that elfin face and I was picturing more of a Sophie Marceau version of Anna.

Sophie Marceau as Anna Karenina (1997)

Anyway, how did you picture Anna? I still think Keira will do a good job getting Anna's appeal across as well as her anguish.

As an aside, Jude Law looks crazy good as Anna's husband. And of course I think Aaron Johnson will be fabulous. Great cast, I'm just...that's just not my Anna.

Are you excited?? We get Anna Karenina and The Great Gatsby in the same year! It's almost too much for me to bear. I don't want to wait until the holidays for these presents!!

And I LOVE Kiera. She can do no wrong in my eyes.

Eeee I can't WAIT. Also, I don't know if the movie itself will hold up, but the preview hit all the right buttons for someone who loves the book!

  2. Have you watched any Warehouse 13? They had this actress play H.G.Wells (yeah, they decided it was altogether possible for H.G. to be female) who might make a good Anna. ~looks up on imdb~ Jaime Murray

    Her imdb page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1444665/
