PS

Sometimes when I read other writers' blogs, I feel so small. So very small. Like a child gazing up at a world that is bigger and taller than I will ever be.

"Get thee off the internet!" shouts Kenneth Branagh.

Oh, Kenneth. You always know just what to say.

  2. (guilty look) Catherynne Valente's livejournal. I am in awe of her talent and of how prolific she is.

  3. And then tormented myself by watching a really cute video of the authors from the vampire collection Teeth, which included Neil Gaiman, Catherynne Valente, Terri Windling, Holly Black, Ellen Kushner, Delia Sherman, etc etc etc. I was like the loser high school kid peering in on the cool kid's activity (soccer, in the case of my high school, NOT cheerleading and football).

  4. I feel that way, too, a lot of the time. Part of it's tied to not posting as often, the other to not writing as much as I want to. (And a part is feeling, stilll, like the student or the fan, and when I step into the role of equal, it doesn't seem quite right.)

As for Mr. Branagh, I will always love him (and Emma Thompson) in "Much Ado About Nothing." "I would my horse had the speed of your tongue. But so good a continuer, a god's name, I have done."

  5. Yes, exactly. That student or fan feeling is still there. Then again, I AM still a student and I will always be a fan. But still, sometimes I feel very small.

"Much Ado About Nothing" is one of my favorite movies!! Beatrice is the literary heroine I most relate to. We need to hang out and watch movies and anime together for realz.

  6. Yes, as much as I think of myself as a writer above all else, I still feel small, as you say, to the writers I love to read. (This despite the fact that I am a real life acquaintance to an author whose epic fantasy I love.)

I have not seen that movie in forever, but I love it, especially that scene. I used to have their fight memorized and I know I still have the handwritten copy of the dialogue that I wrote out in 7th grade or so.
